I apologize for the needless ambiguity of my self-designation. I'm Edward Smith, your erstwhile cohort & co-registrant at Steller Secondary School, from another century & another lifetime, it seems.

I happened on this blog two days ago while researching different critical opinions of Michael Albert's book, "Unorthodox Marxism," & was (pleasantly) startled to realize that you were its percipient author.

I've read just enough since then to gather that life is going reasonably well for you, & that you've somehow maintained steadfast fidelity to your core beliefs & convictions over the years, which both pleases & inspires me immensely.

I dwell in Kitsap County now, so hopefully, if it's not an imposition, we could perhaps arrange to chat over coffee (or tea) sometime, whenever your schedule permits.

I can be reached online at either muteprotest@yahoo.com or edward.smith3@gmail.com, both of which I hazard a glance at with metronomic regularity.

Once again, I'm just glad to see that you're doing well, & especially that you've found an apparently fulfilling mode of existence, the rarest commodity of all these days... Congratulations once more on the engagement as well.

Best,

Gracias por el poema, Edward.

But I'm sorry I have to ask, which Edward are you? Because I know a couple...

Much love,

Con ella

Como es duro este tiempo, espérame:
vamos a vivirlo con ganas.
Dame tu pequeñita mano:
vamos a subir y sufrir,
vamos a sentir y saltar.

Somos de nuevo la pareja
que vivió en lugares de hirsutos,
en nidos ásperos de roca.
Como es largo este tiempo, espérame
con una cesta, con tu pala,
con tus zapatos y tu ropa.

Ahora nos necesitamos
no solo para los claveles,
no solo para buscar miel:
necesitamos nuestras manos
para lavar y hacer el fuego,
y que se atreva el tiempo duro
a desafiar el infinito
de cuatro manos y cuatro ojos.

--Pablo Neruda

Congratulations & best wishes for the future!
